Sonja Thorsvik

Welcome, Dobro pozhalovat, Velkomen,  Akwaaba, Hwan young ham ni da,

My name is Sonja Thorsvik, owner and photographer of Blue Crab Yo-Yo Photography.  I took my first photograph when I was 2 years old and haven’t stopped since.  With influence and help from my family and friends my unstoppable passion for capturing images has taken me to some unbelievable places in our world enabling me sculpt my individual shooting style. Creativity comes to me from natural elements, details, texture, and unused industrial spaces.

Over the years my photographs have appeared in newspapers, study abroad websites and publications, advocacy organization news stories, medical offices, and my mother’s walls. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Studies, which allowed me to study overseas on three separate occasions, and a Master of Arts in International Education, Advising from the SIT Graduate Institute.  Throughout my travels in over 40 countries and all across the United States my photographs have helped highlight communities and bridge the gap in cross-cultural awareness.

The name “Blue Crab Yo-Yo Photography” is a tribute to my life thus far:  Although I caught the travel bug years ago and bounce around from place to place, I will always be attached to my first place of inspiration-my home state, Maryland, known for its blue crabs.  Future photo goals: work with a food stylist, have a magazine spread, promote study abroad efforts, save an exotic species.
